The predecessor of the School of Mechanical Engineering was the water conservancy construction mechanization major of Beijing Water Conservancy School, which began to enroll students in 1956. In 1958, the Beijing Institute of Water Resources and Electric Power was established, among which the major of water conservancy construction machinery was one of the few undergraduate programs established in domestic universities at that time. Today, the School of Mechanical Engineering has evolved into an engineering institution for multi-level human resources training and education, authorized to confer undergraduate and graduate degrees in engineering as well as professional master's degrees. The college has four undergraduate majors: Mechanical Design manufacture and Automation Major (national first-class undergraduate major), Measurement, Control and Instrumentation Major (Henan first-class undergraduate major), Vehicle Engineering Major， and Intelligent Manufacturing Engineering Major. We offer excellent engineering classes in Mechanical Design manufacture and Automation Major. And cooperate with Teesside University in the United Kingdom to offer a 4-year undergraduate program in Mechanical Design manufacture and Automation Major. Recruit undergraduate and postgraduate international students. It has a master's degree in mechanical engineering (a key discipline of Henan Province) and a mechanical degree category.

The School of Mechanical Engineering has over 100 faculty members, including 11 professors and 32 associate professors (senior engineers)，55 PhD graduates, and 5 PhD candidates. Among the teaching staff, there are national model teachers, new century "tens of millions of talents project" national candidates, enjoy the special government allowance experts of The State Council, Henan province Central Plains teaching teachers, famous teaching teachers of Henan Province, excellent expert of Henan Province, outstanding professional and technical talents of Henan Province, excellent teachers of Henan Province, Outstanding Talents of Scientific and technological innovation in Henan Province, Outstanding Youth in Science and Technology Innovation of Henan Province, Excellent Youth of Henan Province, academic technology leader of Henan Province, academic technology leader of Henan Provincial Department of Education, scientific and technological innovation talents in universities of Henan Province, young and middle-aged backbone teachers of colleges and universities in Henan Province and so on. There are two teaching teams of colleges and universities in Henan Province， three innovative science and technology teams in Henan Province, one science and technology innovation team in Zhengzhou City, and two science and technology innovation teams in colleges and universities in Henan Province.

The School of Mechanical Engineering has five departments and three teaching and experimental centers. The Department of Mechanical Design manufacture and Automation and the Department of Electromechanical and Measurement and Control Instruments are Provincial-level teaching grass-roots organizations and school-level excellent teaching and research offices; there are four provincial scientific research and experiment platforms and six municipal scientific research and experiment platforms, which have laid a solid foundation for the College's scientific research, teaching and talent cultivation. 

In recent years, the School of Mechanical Engineering has undertaken more than 100 scientific research projects at all levels, such as the National Natural Science Foundation of China, the sub-topic of the national "863" key project, and the "948" project of the Ministry of Water Resources, etc. She has received 23 awards from provincial ministries and departments. She won 23 provincial and departmental awards, published 593 papers in important academic journals at home and abroad, completed various types of scientific research project funds of more than 40.21 million yuan, published 43 textbooks and books, and authorised 106 invention patents. She has undertaken 2 national undergraduate teaching projects, 30 undergraduate teaching projects and education teaching reform projects in Henan Province, and won 4 first prizes and 5 second prizes for education teaching achievements in Henan Province. 

The School of Mechanical Engineering has made remarkable achievements in innovation and entrepreneurship, skills competitions, and other aspects, and has won more than 100 awards in various provincial competitions and more than 50 awards in national competitions. In the past 70 years, the college has trained tens of thousands of graduates for the country, and the employment situation of graduates has been very good, and the employment rate is among the best in the school, and the employment rate is stable at more than 90%. The graduates are all over the country and are generally welcomed by society, especially in the hydropower industry, and most of them have become department management, technical leaders, and business backbone, playing an active role in the construction of the country.

Looking forward to the future, there is a long way to go, during the "14th Five-Year Plan" period, the School of Machinery will firmly grasp the two core works of high-level discipline construction and high-quality talent training, to comprehensively enhance the core competitiveness of the school of Machinery, and strive to achieve the comprehensive, coordinated, and sustainable development of the School of Mechanical Engineering.
