On the afternoon of May 15, NCWU’s post competency enhancement seminar for international Chinese education volunteers was held in the meeting room 8221 of the Longzihu Campus. Two senior experts in international Chinese education with rich overseas teaching experience were invited to provide specialized guidance: Associate Professor Lv Zhaoge from Zhengzhou University and Associate Professor Sun Junfang from Henan University of Chinese Medicine. This seminar was presided over by Vice Dean Zhou Yantao of the School of International Education, and attended by the international Chinese education volunteers assigned by NCWU, selected postgraduates and undergraduates from the International Chinese Education major.

Themed on “Teaching Design and Management of International Chinese Class”, Lv Zhaoge began with the current status of international Chinese education, put forward the objectives of teaching design for international Chinese class in combination with the characteristics of such class, and elaborated the teaching design for such class from its contents, procedures, elements, and principles. In addition, based on a number of actual examples of overseas classes, she analyzed the environment and discipline management of international Chinese classes as well as the management principles and strategies for class activities. With a focus on the “Cross-cultural Communication and Emergency Response for Overseas Chinese Teaching”, and in combination with her experience in international Chinese education in the USA, Sun Junfang explained the common issues in cross-cultural communication and their solutions through specific case analysis. She outlined the solutions for emergencies in the overseas teaching environment, and emphasized the significance of enhancing cross-cultural adaptability and communication, and coordination ability, providing practical guidance for volunteers to effectively conduct overseas teaching assignments in the future.
In their presentations, the two experts shared their research achievements and practical wisdom in combination with their overseas teaching experience, and with a focus on the core literacy and teaching ability of international Chinese teachers. During this seminar, the frontier developments and advanced concepts of international Chinese teaching class were presented, the students’ understandings of professional knowledge and international Chinese education responsibility and mission were deepened through actual case analysis to enhance their post competency in future work, stimulate their enthusiasm of devoting themselves to international Chinese education, and setting up a firmer ideological and theoretical foundation for their study and practice in this field.
