On May 24, the Second Chinese Speech Competition for International Students in Henan Province titled “Charming Chinese, Accompanied with You,” hosted by the Education Department of Henan Province and organized by Henan Universities Alliance for International Students in China, was concluded at Sias University, bringing 74 international students from 31 countries together. During the competition, the contestants learned from each other, and collectively appreciated the breadth and profundity of Chinese culture.
4 international student representatives from the school attended this competition. After the intense competition within 2 days, Ma Nan (Nepalese) from Mechanical Design, Manufacturing and Automation major of Grade 2023 won the best stage presence prize; Wu Siyuan (Nigerian) and Ma Nan (Nepalese) from International Economics and Trade major of Grade 2024, and Xin Rui (Bengalese) and Omar (Bengalese) from Computer Science and Technology major of Grade 2023 won the third prize; NCWU won the “Best Organization” prize.
This competition was divided into three rounds: preliminary, qualifying, and final, consisting of two segments: themed speech and talent show. In the preparatory stage, the school actively prepared for the competition by selecting outstanding contestants and assigning advisers to provide training in Chinese pronunciation and talent show. During the themed speech, the contestants adhered closely to the topics and used fluent Chinese to share their academic and life experience and their understanding of Chinese culture. In his speech titled “All Started from a Dumpling”, Ma Nan introduced the Chinese food- dumplings, conveying his fondness for Chinese traditional food and culture; with his speech titled “Beautiful Millennial Ancient City - Kaifeng”, Xin Rui described his travel experience in Kaifeng, and expressed his deep affection for this historic capital; Omar, in his speech titled “Unforgettable Travel in Nanyang”, shared his study tour in Nanyang, presenting his curiosity about traditional Chinese medicine and his admiration for Chinese culture; through his speech titled “My Study Abroad Experience”, Usam described his experience in using Alipay and traveling by high-speed rail when studying in China, showing his praise for the rapid development of China. During the talent show, the song “Loyalty to the Country” performed by Xin Rui moved judges and audiences; Omar performed the song “Friends” by guitar playing while Ma Nan and Usam performed the songs “Farewell” and “A Man Should Strive for Strength” respectively, winning rounds of applause from the audience.
This competition built a good learning and exchange platform for international students in Henan, deepened their experience in Chinese culture, and strengthened the China-foreign exchange and cooperation. In the future, the School will be further devoted to communication and exchange of outstanding traditional Chinese culture, and will constantly strive to cultivate more international students in China with an international view and cross-cultural communication ability.
