To further enhance the post-competency of international Chinese teacher volunteers and reserve teachers of Confucius Institute, the HSK curriculum simulation teaching and observation activity sponsored jointly by the School of International Education and the School of Foreign Studies was held in the Longzihu Campus. This activity was presided over by Vice Dean Zhou Yantao of the School of International Education and attended online by all volunteer teachers from the Confucius Institute and students from the International Chinese Education major.
Teaching demonstration and evaluation were conducted during this activity with a focus on key grammar in the HSK curriculum. 3 in-service volunteer teachers from the Confucius Institute and 3 students from the International Chinese Education major presented their teaching plans in sequence. In combination with teaching objectives, curriculum contents, and class organizing modes, the trainees elaborated teaching design concepts, grammar explanation methods, and interaction arrangements. The presentations were close to the teaching practices, fully reflecting their good professional literacy and post-adaptability.
To strengthen the teaching effect, 4 experts with rich experience in international Chinese education were invited to conduct the site evaluation. With a focus on teaching structure arrangements, grammar point explanation accuracy and logic, teaching language expression, classroom organization and process control, the expert group raised opinions and suggestions to all participants to help them further optimize their teaching design and enhance their practical ability.
This event focused on “promoting learning with teaching, urging practice through evaluation” and strengthened the teaching practice of volunteers and students of related majors by combining simulation teaching with expert guidance. The student representatives from the International Chinese Education major stated that the observation and evaluation enhanced their understanding of post-requirements, and also fostered their confidence and capacity reserve for engaging in international Chinese education in the future. The School of International Education will continue to focus on the internationalized education objective and improve its practical teaching system to drive the specialized construction of a volunteer team in international Chinese education and boost the high-quality development of NCWU’s international Chinese education.
