Project Name: Research on Discourse Construction of Henan Province’s Urban Image in American Media Reports and Analysis of International Communication Strategies
l This study combined quantitative and qualitative research methods, taking 10 cities in Henan province as the research objects. By collecting data from Corpus of Contemporary American English and relevant mainstream media reports, using corpus linguistics and critical discourse analysis methods, the study analyzed the shaping characteristics of the government, environment, economy, culture, and citizen images of Henan’s cities by the American media. It explored the discourse issues, contents, tendencies, and strategies of city image construction. Furthermore, this study analyzed the international communication strategies of Henan city image and proposed ways to construct a distinctive promotional discourse system for Henan’s image.

Project Name: Comparison Study of the Metaphor of “Water” in Chinese and Spanish
l This study compared the metaphor of “water” in Chinese and Spanish, exploring the similarities (in terms of metaphorical usage in time, emotions, thoughts, wealth, and challenges) and differences (with Chinese focusing on water as a metaphor for Taoism and virtues, while Spanish emphasizes water as a metaphor for courage and hope) between Chinese and Spanish “water” metaphors. This research is to investigate the cultural and cognitive differences between Chinese and Spanish people, so as to promote dialogue and communication for civilization.

Project Name: Research on Media Construction and Communication Strategy of Zhengzhou City Image
l This study selected content from three mainstream Chinese media outlets from 2017 to 2021 regarding Zhengzhou for quantitative content analysis and qualitative text analysis. Using research methods such as content analysis, text analysis, comparative analysis, and critical discourse analysis from both a self-construction and other-construction perspective, it explored the differences in the portrayal of Zhengzhou’s government image, environmental image, economic image, cultural image, and citizen image across different media outlets. Finally, some constructive recommendations are provided for the shaping and dissemination of Zhengzhou’s city image.
