The school of materials science and engineering at North China University of Water Resources and Electric Power (hereafter mentioned as "the school") is recognized both nationally and internationally for its excellence in research and teaching. Beginning in 2018 from the very specialty of mechanical engineering and civil engineering materials, the school has 3 undergraduate majors which are Material Molding and Control Engineering, Inorganic nonmetallic Material Engineering and Resource Recycling Science& Engineering. The major of Material Molding and Control Engineering and the major of Inorganic nonmetallic Material Engineering are all the major of "comprehensive reform experimental unit" in Henan Province.
The fundamental objective for the development of the school lies in regional economic development needs in Henan Province, training high-level and internationalized applied talents. The scientific research programs in the school are to cater to practical needs, with the emphasis on improving materials ‘performance and properties. The orientation for training talents is to develop professional researchers and engineers with expertise backgrounds of innovation and entrepreneurship.
Five main research directions are engaged in the school, including (1) Preparation and processing of advanced materials: where the key issues involved in material molding, composite technology and connection are highlighted, including modification and protection technology of composite functional coating material, forming technology of advanced structural material, especially liquid phase plasma surface treatment technology; (2) New water conservancy materials: digital design, digital manufacture and advanced forming process equipment for water conservancy materials; (3)Inorganic non-metallic materials and their multi-functionalized design: where the research focus lies in high efficiency gas separation membrane, new functional ceramics, optical catalysis, etc;(4)Building material: which are aimed at application of high performance concrete,advanced cement material and green manufacturing of building materials; (5) Research on solid waste treatment, where the focus is on reuse technology of construction waste, glass and tailings, etc.
The school has provincial innovation and technology team, “Zhihui Zhengzhou 1125 Jucai program" and 2 provincial key disciplines (joint) principal investigator and research direction. In addition, there are school-level innovative research team of waste resource utilization and new materials development, inorganic non-metallic materials engineering basic courses teaching team, inorganic nonmetallic materials courses excellent teaching team and building materials courses excellent teaching team.
Two province-level key laboratories and research centers have been established in the school, that is, "Henan Water Conservancy Machinery anti-wear and anti-corrosion Engineering Technology Research Center" and " Key Laboratory of surface engineering technology for new materials and water conservancy machinery ". The school has also attached great importance to the collaborative development between scientific research and engineering applications, serving to the regional economic development. A number of schoolenterprise cooperation platforms have been established. More than 40 vertical and horizontal projects have been run in the school, including the state key development projects 863 sub-topics, as well as the National Science Foundation of China. The output included 120 SCI, EI, ISTP-indexed publications, 35 approved invention patents, and 6 provincial and ministerial level scientific prizes and awards since 2015.
The school has 44 faculty members, including 30 Phds, 6 professors and 8 associate professors. Among them, one is an evaluation expert of the Ministry of Education, one is an outstanding expert of Henan Province, one is an outstanding teacher from the State, one is an advanced female worker of Henan Province, one is a civilized teaching worker of Henan Province, and two are young backbone teachers of colleges and universities of Henan Province. Four people have been abroad for exchange as State visiting scholar sponsored by the National Study Abroad Fund Committee.
