From January 12thto 14th, the Symposium onthe Constructionof "Advanced Algebra"and "Linear Algebra" Courses was held at our Longzihu Lake campus. Thisevent was jointly hosted by North China University of Water Resources and Electric Power, Southeast University, China Science Publishing & Media Ltd., and the Henan Provincial Teaching and Instruction Committee of Higher Education Mathematics. It was co-organized by the School of Mathematics and Statistics, the First-Class Specialty Construction Office, and the First-Class Discipline Construction Office of North China University of Water Resources and Electric Power.
Ji Shuangli, Deputy Director of the Higher Education Division of the Education Department of Henan Province, Professor Liu Junguo,AssociatePresidentforAcademic Affairs of North China University of Water Resources and Electric Power, Professor Li Xuezhi, Director of the Henan Provincial Teaching and Instruction Committee of Higher Education Mathematics and President of Henan Finance University, Chang Sheng, Director of the Higher Education Mathematics and Physics Division of China Science Publishing & Media Ltd., as well as over 200 experts, scholars, and teacher representatives from more than 70 universities across China attended the event. The opening ceremony was presided over by Professor Wang Tianze from our university.
Liu Junguo, on behalf of the North China University of Water Resources and Electric Power, delivered a welcome speech, where he extended a warm welcome to the delegates who had come from afar, expressed sincere gratitude to the Education Department of Henan Province, China Science Publishing & Media Ltd. and the experts and scholars for their long-term support and assistance to our university, and introduced the university's history, educational philosophy, and the development and achievements of the mathematics discipline in recent years. He stated that our university places a high emphasis on the construction of undergraduate courses, always adheres to a student-centered approach, continuously strengthens course development, actively promotes the deep integration of modern information technology with teaching, establishes new concepts for course construction, advances course reform and innovation, and actively guides students in inquiry-based and personalized learning, which have laid a solid foundation for advancing high-level undergraduate education. He also noted that the university will continue to uphold the fundamental task of fostering virtue through education, and with the "Double Ten Thousand" construction as a guide, further intensify the development of various types of courses, strengthen the process assessment and course evaluation, and focus on creating a batch of "golden courses" that are advanced, innovative, and challenging, in order to comprehensively enhance the level of course construction and the quality of talent cultivation. He hoped that by taking the opportunity of this conference, experts and scholarsof our university orfromother institutescan strengthen communication and exchange, actively participate in in-depth discussions and offer valuable suggestions and opinions on our course construction, to spark ideas and inspiration through exchange and work together to promote the prosperity and development of higher algebra and linear algebra courses.
Ji Shuangli, on behalf of the Higher Education Division of the Education Department of Henan Province, delivered a speech,where shewarmly welcomedthe experts and scholars present, and expressedheartfelt gratitude for their long-term attention and support towards higher education in Henan. She pointed out that the curriculum is the core element of talent cultivation and an important tool for the connotative development of specialties, while the construction of first-class courses is an important foundation for supporting the construction of first-class majors and a strategic choice and innovative path for enhancing the service development capabilities of universities and cultivating first-class teachers and top-notch talents. Henan earnestly implements the Important Comments on Education by General Secretary Xi Jinpingand the spirit of the National Education Conference and thoroughly carries out the requirements of the National Conference for Undergraduate Education Work of Higher Institutes in the New Era. By establishing the Curriculum Management Service Platform for Higher Education Institutions of Henan Province and promoting the joint establishment of a curriculum alliance among universities and other means, Henan guides higher education institutions to changethemindset, reform methods and strengthen management,aimingto gradually renew teaching philosophies, improve curriculum construction and enhance teaching capabilities. This symposium provides us with a valuable platform for exchange and learning. All experts and teachers are hoped to speak freely, share experiences, find ways and pool efforts to accelerate the construction of first-class courses that meet the new era's higher education situation and requirements. It is believed that this symposium will surely promote the reform of courses and the construction of first-class undergraduate programs of higher education universities, and drive the high-quality development of higher education in Henan.
During this symposium, 15 distinguished professors who are either renowned teachers recognized by the Ministry of Education or in charge of national first-class courses were invited to give presentations, including Professor Lin Yanan from Xiamen University, Professor Chen Jianlong from Southeast University, Professor Qin Jing from Shandong University, Professor Ding Nanqing from Nanjing University. In addition,Professor Wang Tianze of our university, integrating the teaching characteristics of our university and based on the requirements of the new era, delivered a report titled "Exploration and Practice of Constructing a First-Class Linear Algebra Course based on Online and Offline Teaching Methods".
The reportsby expertswere profound yet accessible and delivered with humor and wit, which provided strong inspiration and guidance for the upcoming application and construction of national first-class courses, innovative practices in classroom teaching and the construction of textbooks in the new era, played an active role in promoting educational and teaching reforms in college mathematics education and the cultivation of high-quality talent during the Fourteenth Five-Year period, and also provided robust support for our university's efforts to advance the "Double First-Class" initiative.
