On April 14, the Henan Regional Contest for the 10th National University Student Energy Economy Academic Creativity Competition was successfully held at the Garden Campus of our university. The event was hosted by the Chinese Society of Optimization, Overall Planning and Economical Mathematics and organized by the School of Energy and Power Engineering.

Our Vice President, Liu Xuemei, and Professor Wang Feng from Chongqing University, who served as an observer for the organizing committee, both delivered opening speeches at the ceremony. Experts and scholars from dozens of universities and institutions, including China University of Geosciences, Zhengzhou University, Henan University, Zhengzhou University of Aeronautics, and China Geological Survey, attended the opening ceremony. The ceremony was presided over by Sun Ken, Secretary of the Party Committee of the School of Energy and Power Engineering.

Vice President Liu Xuemei, on behalf of the university, extended a warm welcome and sincere wishes to the leaders, experts, faculty members and students from various universities. She briefly introduced the university's history, scale, talent cultivation, and educational features. She pointed out that currently, the entire university is working together to fully promote the construction of a "Double First-Class" university and the undergraduate education and teaching audit and evaluation work despite difficulties. The university will take this competition as an opportunity to further implement the fundamental task of fostering virtue through education, and deepen the "Three-Dimensional Education" framework. Through the establishment of a high-level competition platform, the university aims to promote teaching, learning, reform, and development through competition, thereby optimizing the talent cultivation system and accelerating the transformation of academic talent cultivation. This will lay a solid foundation for the university's undergraduate education and teaching audit and evaluation, as well as the cultivation of outstanding water conservancy talents.

Wang Feng, in his speech, highlighted that over the past decade, the National University Student Energy Economy Academic Creativity Competition has become a significant event that responds to the country's major strategic needs and contributes to the cultivation of talent for achieving the "dual carbon" goals. It serves as a platform that stimulates university students' innovative spirit, inspires creative thinking, enhances their creative abilities, and propels them towards realizing their aspirations. He further provided a comprehensive evaluation of the competition, considering factors such as participation and impact, level of difficulty and focus, the rationality of the competition design, and the standardization of process management.

Professor Liu Yuanpeng, serving as the head of the judging panel and representing Zhengzhou University of Aeronautics, addressed the audience on behalf of the panel. He affirmed the panel's unwavering commitment to adhering to the competition's regulations and upholding the principles of fairness, impartiality, and transparency. Professor Liu emphasized the panel's dedication to respecting all participants, exercising sound judgment, and ensuring objectivity throughout the evaluation process.

The National University Student Energy Economy Academic Creativity Competition, established in 2015, is a nationwide event administered by the Chinese Society of Optimization, Overall Planning and Economical Mathematics. In March 2023, the competition was officially included in the "National Directory of Competitions for University Students in Regular Higher Education Institutions" released by the China Association of Higher Education. This year's Regional Contest witnessed the participation of 24 universities, with a total of 514 projects submitted. Following rigorous selection through university-level competitions, 110 outstanding teams representing 17 universities advanced to the regional finals. The competition adopted a hybrid format, featuring live presentations coupled with online Q&A sessions, with each team given a 5-minute presentation followed by a 5-minute question-and-answer segment.

The participating teams provided in-depth explanations of their projects' value, research process, and conclusions. They also engaged in discussions on hot topics in the field of energy economics and proposed numerous creative and forward-looking solutions. The event not only highlighted the students' solid grasp of professional knowledge and exceptional teamwork skills but also demonstrated their courage to embrace challenges and their capacity for innovation. The judges posed insightful questions pertaining to project content, research methodology, and innovative aspects, to which the students responded with quick thinking and precise responses, showcasing their academic prowess and research capabilities. After intense competition, a total of 28 projects were awarded first prize at the regional level and secured their place in the national competition. Additionally, 33 projects received second prize and 35 projects earned third prize honors.
