The School of Architecture presently has 5 undergraduate disciplines, namely, Architecture, Urban and Rural Planning, Environmental Art, Visual Communication and Public Art, and 2 postgraduate disciplines, including Architecture and Civil related masters. In 2009, the discipline of Art Design was elected as Excellent Special Major in Henan Province. In 2012, the discipline of Architecture was selected as Excellent Special Major in North China University of Water Resources and Electric Power (NCWU). In 2013, the discipline of Architecture has become the “Discipline Comprehensive Reformed Pilot Point”in institutes of higher education.
The School is well-staffed with 81 faculty members, among whom there are 5 professors, 11 associate professors, 5 PhD’s. The school has set up 5 teaching and research departments: Architecture, Urban and Rural Planning, Landscape Architecture, Visual Communication and Public Art. In addition, School of Architecture supports practice and research with the Architecture and Art Center Laboratory, The Laboratory contains 6 research units, including Model Building, Architecture Physics, Photograph, Screen Printing, Pottery and Sculpture as well as Computing.
School of Architecture attaches great importance to the development of teaching and research abilities and the education of ethics and morality among the teachers in the school. The school has built one mentor system to train young teachers, one assessment system to evaluate the trial teaching in the teaching and research department and one supervision system to direct the teaching process. In order to develop students’ hands-on ability and innovation abilities and ensure the improvement of undergraduate teaching quality, the school has implemented measures as Model Teaching by Outstanding Teachers, Young Teachers Teaching Competition, etc. School of Architecture closely ties with Henan North China Water Resources and Electric Power Survey and Design Co. Ltd., regarding teaching and production integration as the main feature.
The School perseveres in combing teaching and production with research. In the last 5 years, teachers in the school have hosted and accomplished more than 30 lengthwise and crosswise projects and have gained more than 10 appraisal scientific achievements, have won 2 Second Prizes and 3 Third Prizes in Science and Technology Progress Award in Henan Province, have published more than 200 research papers in the journals both at home and from abroad and have published more than 20 monographs and textbooks.
School of Architecture keeps encouraging the students to actively participate in technological activities, such as, “All kinds of Architecture Planning and Design Competitions” “University Student Innovation Experiment Project” etc. The students who attended those activities have achieved fruitful results. Graduates from our School of Architecture have developed solid professional knowledge and strong abilities and won a great reputation form the employers and the employment rates have been topping the rank in NCWU.
