The School of Information Engineering, formerly known as Department of Information Engineering, was founded in June 1999. It was merged with the discipline of Computer Science in Dynamic Department, Mathematics and Physics, Drafting Teaching and Research Units in Preliminary Department. The school started to enroll junior college students from 1988 and undergraduate students from 1994. With the establishment of Information Engineering Department, the school enriched its disciplines with Electronic Information Engineering, Telecommunication Engineering, Electronic Information and Technology and Network Engineering, etc. As the school has been expanding and developing, the Department of Information Engineering transformed into School of Information Engineering. Until 2013, the School of Information Engineering has developed more than 3000 undergraduate and junior college students in total, making a significant contribution to deliver advanced technological talents in IT and the Water Resources Electric Power Industry.
School of Information Engineering is presently well-equipped with 6 teaching and research offices, 2 experiment centers and 2 research institutes. There are more than 68 teachers in the school, among whom 4 teachers enjoy the title of professor, 14 are associate professors and 44 are lecturers. 14 teachers have doctoral degrees and 95% of the teaching staff has master’s degree. The faculty is a energetic, enterprising and reasonably structured. The school has made great efforts to integrate the existing resources to keep up with the latest development opportunities in IT industry. Currently, the school has 2 Class A master’s program, 2 Class B master’s program, 5 undergraduate disciplines and 1 College to University Upgraded Discipline and 1 Key Laboratory in NCWU. The total value of all research and teaching devices costs more than 12 million. The school also currently has 40 postgraduate students and 1600 undergraduate students. The discipline of the Applied Computer Technology is listed as a key discipline at NCWU and in Henan Province in 2007 and 2008 respectively.
The School of Information Engineering strengthens the development of disciplines, meanwhile emphasizing on the talent introduction and scientific research, the School of Information Engineering has implemented various kinds of measures to further their study and there are currently 5 teachers doing part-time PhD courses. In order to improve teacher’s research levels, the school has launched the School Young Research Fund, formed the research teams and encouraged young teachers to apply for all kinds of projects and study topics.
Directed by the guidance of “Promote Teaching by Scientific Research, Activate Scientific Research through Teaching”, School of Information Engineering has made rapid progress in scientific research. In the last three years, teaching staff has published more than 100 academic dissertations among which 15 are embodied and quoted by SCI、EI and ISTP. The school has gained 8 Appraisal Scientific Technology Achievements and has published 17 academic monographs, from which the teaching material of “Database Technology and the Application” is listed as the State Planning Teaching Material during the Eleventh-Five-year period.
The School of Information Engineering attaches great importance to develop students’ innovation and hands-on abilities, encourages students to actively participate in Software Design and National Maths Model Competition, cultivates a large group of excellent students with strong hand-on abilities. At the same time, a large group of outstanding teachers emerged from the school.
