    Acting as the backbone of NCWU, the School of Water Conservation Engineering was established in 1950s and has been developing with the pace of NCWU, sticking to the step of water resources and electrical engineering and their needs for talents. The School has been always adhering to the guideline of “Be Strict with Management and Teaching”, carrying forward the positive academic atmosphere as “Diligence, Seriousness, Practicality and Creativity”, nurturing graduates by following the traditions and principles of “Pragmatic, Hard work, Perseverance and Professionalism”, has cultivated hundreds of thousands of technical and management innovations for domestic and international water resources, enjoyed a high reputation for the educational standards of water resources and electric power.

   The School of Water Conservancy Engineering currently has over 2900 undergraduate students and 360 postgraduates and encompasses six undergraduate majors including Water Resources and Hydroelectric Power, Agricultural Water Conservancy Engineering, Engineering Management, Hydrology and Water Resources, Waterway of Port and Coast Engineering as well as Construction Estimate. Among them, Water Resources and Hydroelectric Power as well as Agricultural Water Conservancy Engineering are national advanced and characteristic specialties as our core programs established at the founding time of NCWU, meanwhile the former is selected as national outstanding program. Engineering Management as well as Hydrology and Water Resources are advanced characteristic specialties at provincial level. In addition, Hydrology and Water Resources as well as Waterway of Port and Coast Engineering are engineering education pilot programs of Henan Province. The School owns three first-tier key disciplines at provincial level including Water Conservancy Project, Management Science and Engineering as well as Agricultural Engineering and among them the former two are doctorate degree level programs. As for the branch of Water Conservancy Project, Hydraulics and Fluvial Dynamics, Hydraulic Structures and Agricultural Conservancy Engineering are the earliest master degree level programs in China. At present, the project of water conservation covers five second-tier key disciplines at provincial level including Hydraulic Structures, Hydraulics and Fluvial Dynamics, Hydrology and Water Resources, Urban Water Affairs Management as well as Waterway of Port and Coast Engineering. In addition, the School of Water Conservancy Engineering is equipped with several laboratories including Hydraulic Laboratory as a basic specialized lab and Water Conservancy Laboratory Center which consists of Water Conservancy Hall, Agricultural High Efficient Water usage and Water saving Experimental Laboratory, Hydraulic Structure Laboratory, Agriculture Water Conservancy Laboratory, Hydrology Experimental Laboratory, Harbor and Water Channels and Coast Engineering Laboratory, River Environment and River Engineering Simulation Laboratory, Water and River Regulation Laboratory as well as Engineering Project Construction Simulation and Management Laboratory. Among them, Hydraulic Structure Laboratory has been selected as a key laboratory by the Ministry of Water Resources of China, Agricultural High Efficient Water Usage and Water saving Experimental Laboratory is a key project of Henan provincial agricultural water saving laboratory and the research center of agricultural water saving engineering technology. River Environment and River Engineering Simulation Laboratory is a provincial key and opening laboratory. Water and River Regulation Laboratory is a nurturing base of provincial prominent laboratory.

   The School of Water Conservation Engineering is closely related to the Engineering Monitoring Center of NCWU, Institute of Geo technical Engineering and Hydraulic Structures, Yellow River Institute of Sciences as well as Research Institute of Steel Structures, developing rapidly by sharing resources and mutual promoting.

   The School of Water Conservation Engineering attracts a wide range of world famous specialists and professors, constructing a rational formation of competitive staff and faculty members and professionals. They have held or participated in vast of national scientific research programs and engineering programs, including national “Eleventh Five-year Plan” major scientific and technological plans, national “863”&”948” projects, National Natural Science Foundation, provincial major scientific and technological plans, Three Gorges project, South-to-north Water Diversion project, Dong River-to-Shenzhen Water Supply project etc..
