School of Mechanical Engineering enjoys a long history of education; the former Mechanics Department can be traced back to the Mechanics Engineering Department in Beijing Institute of Water Resources and Electric Power and was one of the two main departments in North China Institute of Water Resources and Electric Power at the early period of its foundation. The “Construction Machine of Water Conservation” discipline, which was firstly established in 1958, was among the few disciplines that were set up by the school. School of Mechanical Engineering nowadays has developed from the department solely owns the “Construction Machine of Water Conservation” discipline to a comprehensive talent development system that owns 4 undergraduate disciplines and postgraduate programs.   

School of Mechanical Engineering is currently well supported with more than 90 faculty members, among whom 9 are professors and more than 30 are associate professors. There are 29 teachers with Doctoral Degrees and 8 teachers studying for their Ph.Ds. Mechanical Engineering honorably owns 6 National Modeling Teachers, Renowned Teachers in Henan Province, Outstanding Experts in Henan Province, and Heads of Academic Technology in Henan Education Department. Teachers in School of Mechanical Engineering take position in eminent part-time tutors, mainly including Executive director of China Energy Association, Director of China Renewable Energy Association Professional Hydrogen Committee, Member of China Energy Research Association Thermodynamics and Engineering Applications Professional Committee, Director of China Construction Machinery Association, Executive Director of Earth Moving Machinery Branch,  A senior member of Chinese Mechanical Engineering Association, Vice Chairman of China Water Resources Association Higher Education Branch, Director of China Water Resources Society. In addition, there are also tutors who take part-time jobs as renowned experts, such as, Review Experts of National Natural Science Foundation, Evaluation Experts of National Science and Technology Awards Communications, Appeared in the "863" Project Expert Database Experts in the Field of Advanced Energy Technologies, etc.

School of Mechanical Engineering has four undergraduate majors, namely, Material Molding and Control Engineering, Design and Manufacturing of Machinery and Automation, Technology of Test and Instruments as well as Traffic. The major of Mechanical Design and Theory and Vehicle Engineering is authorized to confer master’s degrees. School of Mechanical Engineering owns the “Mechanic Engineering” as the Key Discipline in Henan Province and Key Postgraduate Program, and two Master Degree authorized disciplines “Mechanical Engineering” and “Agricultural Mechanization”.

 School of Mechanical Engineering is responsible for 2 National Undergraduate Teaching Projects: “North China University of Water Resources and Electric Power (NCWU)- Zhengzhou New Defang Heavy Industry Science and Technology co. Ltd. Of Engineering Practice Education Center.” and “Mechanics Design Manufacture and Automation” in Ministry of Education in PRC. Furthermore, there are a great number of teaching projects ongoing within the school, such as,“Mechanics Basic Courses Teaching Team” in Henan Teaching Team of Institute of Higher Learning, “Construction Machinery and Vehicle Experiment and Teaching Center” in  Henan Institutes of Higher Learning Experiment and Teaching Demonstrative Center, “Distinguishing Featured Discipline” in Henan Institute of Higher Learning (Discipline of “Mechanics Design Manufacture and Automation”), “Pilot Point in Discipline Comprehensive Reform” in Henan Institutes of Higher Learning (2 Disciplines of “Mechanics Design Manufacture and Automation” and “Material Molding and Control Engineering), and Excellent Course in Henan Institute of Higher Learning (3 courses). School of Mechanical Engineering has honorably won 1st prize and second prize respectively two years in a row in the evaluation of Education and Teaching Achievement Award in Henan Province.

The School of Mechanical Engineering has undertaken or accomplished more than 30 projects from the nation, the Ministry of Water Resources and local governments in recent 3 years, “National Natural Science Foundation”, “948”Project in Ministry of Water Resources, etc. The school has joined the national“973”project and “863”project (In charge of 1 sub-project respectively).“Clean Energy Vehicle Engine Research Team and Engineering Vehicle Innovation Team” in the school is the innovative technology team in Henan province and among the first group of innovative technology teams in Zhengzhou.“Vehicle Energy Application Cleaning and Engineering Vehicle” is the Key Laboratory Experiment Cultivation Base in Henan Province. “Measurement and Control Equipment” is the Key Laboratory in Zhengzhou. “Employing SHS Technique to Cope with Poisonous Waste” has been sponsored by Technological and Innovative Talents Support Plan in Institutes of Higher Learning in Henan Province. School of Mechanical Engineering has gained several honors in recent 3 years, for example, the school has won 3 first prizes, 1 second prize and 4 third prizes in Technology Progress Award in Henan Province, and 10 first and second prizes in Henan Nature Science Excellent Paper Award in Henan Province. Furthermore, the school has published more than 200 academic papers in core journals and above both at home and from abroad. From which, more than 50 papers has been embodied by SCI, EI, ISIP, the three main indexes in China (Including more than 30 academic papers embodied by SCI, EI, 5 academic papers embodied by Engineering Technology SCI). The school has also earned 6 authorized national invention patents and has published more than 20 academic monographs and national authorized and listed textbooks.

The School of Mechanical Engineering has developed a total number of more than 8000 undergraduates for the nation in 62 years. Presently, there are more than 2500 current undergraduate and postgraduate students in the school. Students in the school attach great importance to the study of basic theory and improvement of the essential skills and strengthen the participation on practical learning. Graduates in our School of Mechanical Engineering have been successful in job searching and the graduate employment rates have been topped the ranks in NCWU. Furthermore, graduates in School of Mechanical Engineering are diligent and dedicated to their jobs, they use their professional knowledge to serve and betterment of society and they are well spread in cities all around China. The graduates all enjoy a promising future and earn good reputations for both NCWU and themselves from their employers for their creativity, good adaptability and strong hands-on skills. Especially in the fields of water and electric industry, most of the graduates have become backbones in business, administration and technology management, making significant contribution to the career development in China.
